Biographical[]
Tebbus comes from a long line of Ivory Cube scholars. As such, he tends towards philosophy; however, unlike the rest of his family Tebbus is fascinated with finding practical applications for his studies.
He remains convinced that any unified filed theory of Eternal Alchemy must be simple. Tebbus cites the simple technologies like a wall, toothpick, or sword as creations that both do their jobs well and tend to endure, whereas more complex devices are more likely to fail. Such a unifying theory of Eternal Alchemy must then be simple, yet encompass all life and existence on Tyria. Tebbus hopes that his continuing studies will provide evidence that that differing racial physiology and psychology result in different relationships with magic. He hopes that his work will discover a simplified, core magic that might yield clues about the nature of the magical universe in general and the corrupting magic of the dragons in particular.
With the time he has spent in the field thus far, Tebbus has come up with more questions than answers, so continues to broaden his studies by being witness (and participant) to as many of the adventures within Tyria as possible.
Personality[]
Tobias spent most of his life in an exclusive collegiate setting and often lacks what humans call "street smarts". Though his goal is to study the other races, he is often baffeled by them. Taller species often mock his height, which confuses him as it was never an issue among the scholars he knew in his youth. His attempts at returning such jokes are rarely effective, as his only rebuttal is to mock the relative small size of his target's ears.
In fact, Tebbus can be brilliant, but is prone to overthinking things and being overly impressed with his own wit and charm. He fancies himself a bit of a Lothario and attempts to flirt with almost everyone who shows him kindness. However, his attempts at seduction are pathetically off base; many of his would-be-conquests don't even realize he is hitting on them. His College of Synergetics dorm mates often compared his love life to his studies: amazing to hear him describe his theories, but not really something that is part of day to day life.
Tebbus tends to be somewhat oblivious to those around him who are not the subjects of whatever study in which he is currently engaged. However, he will always go out of his way for any form of new experience, be it watching Sylvari first awaken from the dream, a battle with a newly risen lich, or testing the questionable cooking of the Charr.
Physical Appearance[]
Tebbus is quite short, even for an Asura. His large blue eyes are considered exotic by many Asura, but his ears are somewhat ragged in appearance and detract from his handsomeness to other Asura. While not particularly strong, he is very agile, with a quick and steady dexterity that allows him to assemble fine lab machinery or add detailed inlays to the hilt of weapons he has crafted. His teeth have started to dull a little with age, but he is still capable of tearing into his meals . . . or foes if combat is going poorly enough.
His experiences outside of the world of academia have hardened him a little, adding calluses and several small scars to his hands and a short rip in his left ear.
Deeds of Note[]
Tebbus' proudest achievement is his Master's Thesis consolidating the Great Sage Senbar's 352 page Law of Branded/Risen Ekpyroticity into a 37 page proof of the same subject.
Character Attributes[]
Tebbus would rather sit back and observe. In combat, this translate to a tendency to shut down foes with stuns and blinds to watch their reactions as he slowly cuts them down. When he has gather sufficient data, his pistol will end the encounter.
